Money Receipt Format in Bangladesh: Free Sample You Can Copy (Cash and House Rent)

Short answer: a money receipt (in Bangla, মানি রিসিট or টাকা প্রাপ্তির রশিদ) is a short written note that says who paid, who received, how much, for what, and on which date, signed by the person who received the money. Copy the format below, fill in the blanks, sign it, and keep a second copy for yourself.

People search for this format for many reasons: a landlord taking rent, a shop taking an advance, a person lending money to a relative, a club collecting a subscription. The format is almost the same every time. Only the "for what" line changes.

What a money receipt must say

Write these eight things. If one is missing, the receipt is easy to dispute later.

Two small habits help more than anything else. Number your receipts in order, and always keep a copy. A receipt book with a carbon copy does both jobs.

Part payment, advance, and full payment: say which

The most common mistake is a receipt that says only "Tk. 10,000 received". Ten thousand against what? If the rent is Tk. 18,000, the tenant and the landlord may later remember it differently.

So write the purpose plainly:

• Full payment: "Received Tk. 18,000 as full house rent for March 2026."
• Part payment: "Received Tk. 10,000 as part payment of March 2026 rent. Tk. 8,000 is still due."
• Advance: "Received Tk. 36,000 as advance (security deposit), refundable as agreed in the rent agreement."

The "still due" line on a part-payment receipt saves most arguments.

Money receipt for house rent: one extra thing to know

A rent receipt is a money receipt where the "for what" line is a month of rent. In Bangladesh the house rent law, the Premises Rent Control Act 1991, has its own rule that a landlord must give the tenant a receipt when rent is paid. If you collect rent every month, stop writing receipts by hand

Writing twelve receipts a year for each tenant, and finding last June's one when someone asks, is the part that goes wrong. A landlord with six flats has seventy-two papers a year.

Frequently asked questions

Is a handwritten money receipt valid?

A handwritten receipt that says who paid, who received, how much, for what and when, and that is signed by the receiver, is a normal written proof of payment. For large amounts, also keep the bKash or bank record. Whether a particular office or court wants a particular form is a question for a lawyer.

Should I write the amount in words as well?

Yes. Figures are easy to change, words are not. Write the figure and the words, and make them match.

What should I write if the money came by bKash?

Write bKash as the method and put the transaction ID on the receipt. Later you can match the receipt against the bKash statement.

Can I make a money receipt in Word or Excel?

Yes. Copy the format above into a Word or Excel file, add your receipt numbers, print it and sign it. The format works on paper as well as on screen, but a signed copy is what people usually ask for.

What is the difference between a money receipt and a rent receipt?

A rent receipt is a money receipt for one purpose: rent. It names the month, the flat and the tenant. Everything else on the format is the same.
